DAKAR » Prologue & Stage One

Living up to it’s dramatic reputation, ‪#‎dakar2016‬ has commenced with the First Stage being cancelled due to severe weather!

Prologue on January 2nd saw beautiful sunny skies and a strong start for the Red Bull KTM Factory Racing Riders, with Aussie Toby Price Racing sitting in 16th position, just 18 seconds behind the leader.

Toby Price – “Happy to get through prologue safely in 16th position!
We made a small mistake in the opening section of the stage and struggled a little to recover. We really focused on completing our own prologue and putting the bike through its paces before the opening stage tomorrow. The atmosphere was incredible in Buenos Aires and I’m pumped to get the Dakar Rally underway.”

Stage One on January 3rd was a different story, with heavy downpours accompanied by violent thunderstorms deeming the course too dangerous for competition. This did not mean the day was without challenges for the racers – it’s Dakar after all! While there may not have been racing against the clock, Bike competitiors had to set off at 4am and traverse 500km over 10 hours to reach Villa Carlos Paz through the horrendous weather conditions.

Hopefully the storms will subside and racing can commence for Stage Two! ‪#‎ktm‬ ‪#‎readytorace‬
